Thomas Harrison Hair (1810-1875)
Thomas Harrison Hair was a landscape, industrial, and marine painter in oil and watercolour as well as engraver and etcher. Born in Scotswood, near Newcastle, his early career began with Tyneside engraver Mark Lambert. Hair worked on industrial scenes at the same time as Carmichael was working on railway scenes, together with more conventional landscapes and marine scenes. From 1838 he worked largely in London exhibiting at the Royal Academy and Suffolk Street Gallery. Represented today in the British Museum, Hatton Gallery, the Laing, and the Shipley, Art Galleries.
