Robert Jobling (1841 - 1923)
Robert Jobling was born in Newcastle and worked in the shipyards before becoming a full-time artist. Part of the Cullercoats colony of artists and later the Staithes Group he painted North-East England coastal life - its people, land- and sea-scapes. Much of Jobling's Staithes Group period work shows the influence of the American artist Winslow Homer in terms of subject matter and compositions which Jobling would have seen when they were both painting in Cullercoats. Jobling interprets this in style of his own. Joblling exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists from 1883. His life and work are featured in the Staithes Group Centenary Catalogue. We are always interested in buying good examples by Robert Jobling.
