This Carmichael was acquired in 1978 from ????? when it was in original, untouched condition and has not been touched since then. Under ultra-violet light it shows virtually no retouching at all.
A letter from the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, dated 29th September 1970, confirms their opiniomn that the rescue depicts the two masted sailing ship, John Slater, service took place on 23rd October 1864. As for the lifeboat, they thinkit was the Constance which was stationed at Tyneouth between 1862 - 1875
