Harry Sutton Palmer (1854-1933)
Harold (Harry) Sutton Palmer was a well known landscape painter in watercolours. Born in Plymouth, he studied art at the R.C.A. for two years, and in the second year won a gold medal for his work. He exhibited regularly at the R.A. from 1870. His first exhibition was a solo exhibition held in 1880. Sutton Palmer then exhibited regularly in London and also in New York. Up to the age of 20 he painted mainly still life but from that time worked almost exclusively as a landscape artist. Also known as an illustrator of books on landscape. He painted widely in Scotland, the Lake District, Berkshire and Surrey. He lived in London and died on 8th May 1933.
