Albert Durer Lucas (1828-1919)
Albert Durer Lucas was born in Bayswater in 1828 the only son of sculptor Richard Cockle Lucas. The family moved to Hampshire in 1849 and Durer Lucas remained in or around Southampton for much of his life. He painted fine still-lifes of flower and foliage often with butterflies and insects. Albert Durer Lucas exhibited in the British Institution and today some of his works can seen at the Southampton City Art Gallery and the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.
