Difficult to say what Flint was thinking when he titled this drawing, the first of four (that we know of) 'experiments in flippancy'. Randy Newman hadn't written his song 'You can leave your hat on' when Flint drew this, but perhaps Flint was thinking along similar lines. Although Flint titled the work in pencil, and made a note of the type of type of paper ('French paper 1763', an antique laid paper), there's no indication of who the model might be. We think it's possibly Cecilia (Green). Provenance: Christie's 2014. Miscatalogued as 'Experiment in flippancy No2.'
