Bought from a private client who had obtained it by descent from a relative. The original owner, very unwisely, had the canvas trimmed to an oval and placed the cut off signature to the reverse! It is still a good sized painting and a desirable subject of a well known beauty spot in Yorkshire. However, it is therefore sold as a decorative painting and, accordingly, the price reflects this.
