Initially painting in oils, Smith turned to watercolour with great acclaim. One of our art data bases lists 199 pictures sold at auction of which only two are in oils confirming their earliness and rarity.
His studio was in Brixton so this good busy scene must have been, to him, very familiar.
Clean and in a frame which seems to be later than first painted.
Signed with his monogramme.
