A small impressionist painting by Scottish artist William Bradley Lamond, and what a painting. A powerful painting, you can almost feel the man’s exhaustion and even his draught horses look totally drained as the three wearily trudge homeward across the moor at the end of the day. There is no romanticism; just the brutal truth that rural labouring at that time was extremely hard physical work. Lamond acknowledges that in this painting and, in so doing, shows his respect for those workers. Signed, lower right.
