William Banks Fortescue (1850-1924)
William Banks Fortescue RBSA was a Birmingham born artist who after an early career in engineering design trained as an artist (Paris/Venice). Fortescue lived in Cornwall, Newlyn and St Ives, intially sharing lodgings with Stanhope Forbes and he became associated with the Newlyn School of artists. He painted rural life and the fishing communities. Exhibited at the Royal Academy, Plymouth and Dowdeswell gallery and today his work can be seen in the collections of the Royal West of England Academy and Penlee House, St Ives.
