A young girl feeds the calves with cabbages carried in her pinafore in this farmyard scene typical of Walter Hunt. Full of charming details, the farmer can be seen milking the cow in the thatched barn, his dog patiently waiting with the barndoor propped open by the cow's yoke. Signed and dated 1896.
