Boyce could easily be accused of being very parochial in his views but with such a rich source of marine subjects on his 'doorstep', and a ready market for his watercolours, who could blame him for recording the North East transition of steam and sail over a lifetime. His understanding of wave and ship movement is still underrated though being ever more recognised. This is a very nice example.
