A wonderful example packed with action and emotion. Often one would expect a work of this size and complexity to be a commission or the artist making a statement and, indeed, the latter proves true as is recorded in Algernon Grave's 'The Royal Academy Of Arts' as his last R.A. exhibition in 1888, No.211, 'Launch of the Lifeboat'. Don't know who the poem is by despite some research. Interesting page at http://www.poetrylibrary.org.uk/queries/lostquotes/?id=224
