A shepherd stops to chat with some resting gentlemen walkers on the high moor above the ruins of Fast Castle (Berwickshire) with far views out to sea. A good size, this bright, colourful, panoroma is a fabulous watercolour and a very good example of Richardson's skill. Richardson treatment of light and sea here capivates the eye: inshore, foaming turbulance as waves strike the rugged headland and offshore, light reflects off clouds seemingly enveloping the sailing boats in a misty haze. Wonderful! Signed, lower right.
