Richardson has to be one of our all time favourites and an artist of of the highest quality, even up to the year of his death. His scrupulous washes can hardly be surpassed technically and the breadth of subject is wonderful. Ther were two minor tears to the bottom left but professionally restored and does not detract - cleaned and de-acidified by our restorer, re-mounted and in an original frame well worthy of retaining. Good original provenance labels. It was sold from the Tomlinson collection at Chrisie's in 1943 and obtained by the last owner about 30 years ago. One of two exemplary examples currently offered.
