Thomas Harper (1820-1889)
Thomas Harper was a watercolour painter from the North East of England who usually painte landscapes. He was born at Eighton Banks, near Gateshead, but at an early age he moved to Newcastle where he became a pupil of Thomas Miles Richardson Senior. From 1841 he is believed to have worked in London, where in 1840 he showed his work at the Royal Academy and later at The Suffolk Street Gallery. His paintings are in collections at the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle, North Tyneside Public Libraries and Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead.
