Stuart Henry Bell (1823-1896)
Marine and scenic painter in oil. Born in Newcastle. Started as a scene painter at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle before moving in 1855 to Sunderland before devoting himself entirely to Marine works - it is said that Queen Victoria considered him the best painter of these since Clarkson Stanfield. Exhibited in the North East from 1870.
