A very finely painted genre scene by Robert W. Wright. Not much is known of him but this painting is typical of his work. Wright often painted these small and delicate interiors telling a story – here both woman seem to have dropped everything to discuss the just opened letter. This painting is one of a pair, the other 'A Private Letter'. Both are housed in their original gold leaf frames. This painting is unsigned.
