A very finely painted genre scene by Robert W Wright. Not much is known of him but this painting is typical of his work. Wright often painted these small and delicate interiors telling a story - here a woman shyly covers the letter she is writing, the other seemingly teasing her. One of a pair, the other 'A Secret Revealed', both in their original gold leaf frames. This painting is signed lower left, and dated 1895.
