Robert Jobling (1841 - 1923)
Wreck of the 'Iron Crown'
Medium: Watercolour
Size without frame: 23.0" x 35.0"
SOLD
A large and powerful watercolor of this well recorded shipwreck off Tynemouth, Oct.1881, and witnessed here by Robert Jobling. Winslow Homer also recorded this scene in watercolours and both drawings bear similarities! From his sketches Jobling would have produced this as a first version as it is dated 1881! A very historically interesting and impressive painting.
