Robert Jobling (1841 - 1923)
Northumberland Moor
Medium: Watercolour
Size without frame: 10.0" x 15.0"
Size including frame: 19.0" x 24.0"
SOLD
The relatively simple treatment employed by Jobling seems to work well in capturing both the scale and the bleakness of a far-reaching Northumberland moor. Painted in 1914, this view is unlikely to have changed much today. Signed and dated lower right.
The buyer informs us that this view is of the moors to the east of Chillingham, looking west towards the coast. She has the same view by Joseph Jobling, Robert's son, and we speculate that father and son painted together on that day.
