An interesting historical view of Exeter by this well respected Scottish artist. Not “Old Molls Coffee House” as described on the old gallery labels on the reverse but likely to be a nearby lane then populated with timber-framed, oriel-windowed houses and taverns – as inscribed verso by the artist as “A bit of old Exeter.” The vast majority of these medieval and post-medieval timber-frame houses, which had survived in Exeter into the 20th century, were demolished in 1920’s clearances.
