Those of you who know North Antrim will appreciate just how perfectly Wilks has captured the light, colours, and atmosphere of the North Channel and Antrim headlands on a squally afternoon. Painted from the north end of Cushendun beach (close to an area known locally as Rockport) looking across the mouth of Red Bay to Garron Point, the steep glacier-carved sides of Knockore Glenariff shaded by cloud, detail washed out as it often is when not directly lit by sunlight.
Perhaps following in the footsteps of James Humbert Craig (his idol/mentor who had a cottage in Cushendun) Wilks too lived in Cushendun. He painted several scenes from this end of the beach – this the best we have seen.
