Joseph Henderson (1832-1908)
Perthshire born Joseph Henderson (also J.D. Henderson) was a Scottish painter of landscapes, marine/coastal scenes, genre and portraits. He studied at the Trustees Academy, Edinburgh becoming a fine portraits painter upon which he focused on for the first twenty years of his career. In later life he became fascinated by the sea and excelled in capturing it in all its moods and forms. Henderson exhibited at Royal Academy (20), Royal Scottish Academy and Suffolk Street and and was the President of the Glasgow Art Club. Widely held in Scottish museum collections including those of Glasgow, Stirling, Ayrshire and Paisley, as well as the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.
