Better known as a marine painter Carmichael also produced many fine landscape paintings of which this is a good example. A woman and young girl rest on a fallen bow and through the trees admire the view of the River Swale and the commanding Richmond Castle.This picture came from the same family as the excellent scene "Off Macduff, Aberdeenshire" presently on this website (now sold).
