They were brave back then, with just sail and oar, but with its nets hurriedly pulled in, a fishing lugger races for harbour ahead of the ominous dark cloud and rain of an approaching storm. Lovely quality as always from Swift – weak sun-rays behind cloud and sheets of rain on the horizon and the luggers crew red-coated. Unknown location but highly likely it’s the Yorkshire coast (Scarborough or Flamborough) a favourite for John Warkup Swift. Signed and indistinctly dated lower right.
