John Warkup Swift paintings don't surface that often so we are pleased to have been able to acquire this fine and good-sized oil. A talented and perhaps underrated marine artist from the North East this painting one of his last, dated 1868. A most attractive slate-blue sea, salvagers race through the choppy waters to recover the mast from the shipwreck below the cliffs off Scarborough. Signed and dated lower right.
