John Robertson Reid RI ROI (1851-1926)
John Robertson Reid was a Scottish painter of genre, landscape and coastal scenes, many of which were of Cornwall. A pupil of George P. Chalmers and William McTaggart his style is very robust, vigorous, sometimes sentimental. Reid exhibited at Royal Academy from 1877, was involved with the Glasgow Boys, and at 35 became president of the Society of British Artists. Widely held in public collections including those of the: Tate; Victoria and Albert Museum; Russell-Cotes Museum and Art Gallery; Shipley Art Gallery; Dudley, Leicester, and Royal Cornwall Museums.
