John M. McGhie (1867-1952)
John McGhie was a Scottish artist, the son a grocer who lived most of his life in the Fife fishing village of Pittenween. He persuaded his father to let him study at Glasgow School of Art, subsequently studying at the Royal Academy Schools and then in Paris. Pittenweem gave him many subjects for his paintings of the seashore and fisherfolk. McGhie also painted some fine portraits of prominent figures. McGhie's works are represented in Scottish museums among them: Scottish Fisheries, Glasgow, Paisley, Kirkaldy and the Royal Highland Fusileers Museums.
