Original watercolour drawing by John Charlton of the Tynedale Fox Hounds, probably dating from 1890/1 though could be a few years earlier. He collated this, and others, into a book, "Twelve Packs Of Hounds - A Collection Of Drawings & Sketches by John Charlton", published in 1891. Charlton's focus was very much the animals - the foxhounds and horses - as ever, wonderfully portrayed. The hunts' riders were very much secondary: he writes in his introduction that he did not attempt "to make the portraits connected with them [the foxhounds] a prominent feature." Nonetheless, John Coppin Straker is recognisable - Master of Tynedale Fox Hounds and Lieutenant-Colonel, Northumberland Hussars, then residing at Stagshaw House, Corbridge. Straker was later (1907) to be High Sheriff of Northumberland, living at The Leazes, Hexham. Cleaned and conserved.
