Named after the Pub, this is a prime work and shows a farmer with his Sussex or Suffolk timber drey taking a pint after a hard days work. Charlton is recognised as one of the finest observers of horse and hound and the animals in this painting are exceptional. In a very good frame and signed with the usual monogramme that he 'tilted' to the slope of the painting. All in all an exceptional painting.
His in-depth biography is well worth reading, the best reference being 'The Artists of Northumbria' by Marshall Hall.
