This is a busy scene of the country market town of Alston, about 25 miles southwest from Hexham. John Atkinson, was known predominantly as a horse artist, but his town and country hunt compositions and genre scenes of agricultural interest rank as the best. This is a good sized painting, well framed and very collectable.
