Jan(Johannus) Christianus Schotel (1787 - 1838)
Dutch painter of marines. Born Dordrecht, Holland 11th November 1787, died 21st Dcember 1838.
He studied the sea and all its moods with great care after much research.
Father of Petrus Jan Schotel. He was a soldier before studying under A. Meulemans and M. Schonman. Represented in many museums particularly Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Stuttgart etc.
