The bulk of Meadows' works are landscapes and, of the many paintings to be viewed in The Royal Academy over many years, not one was Venetian. They appear infrequently and demand strong prices. In this scene we see not the 'tourist' canal but a backwater with tradesmen going about their daily tasks. A very sensitive use of paint, and bathed in a golden early morning glow in what seems to be the original frame. Signed with his monogram JEM bottom left. A true collector's item that will bring much pleasure and admiration.
