Jacobus Leisten (1844 - 1918)
Born in Dusseldorf, Germany, Leisten studied at the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf from 1864 training with Wihelm Sohn before studying at the Munich Academy 1868-73. There he was influenced by Karl von Piloty. Leisten painted narrative historical and figure scenes including scenes from Tyrolean folk life. Respected and successful his works were purchased during his lifetime for public collections and buildings - his equestrian portrait of Duke Erst II is in Coburg castle. Leisten was member of the Dusseldorf artist's association Malkasten and the general German Art Cooperative.
