Of Huguenot descent, Henzell was the uncle of the Hemy family of painters. Initially he painted some portraits but became firmly established as a genre painter, and fisherfolk appear regularly as his subjects.
In the original frame with a renewed slip and bearing a good provenance label of the Fine Art Society of Bond Street, London and dated 1855.
