Hermanus Koekkoek Jnr (1836-1909)
Hermanus Koekkoek Jnr (also known as Hermanus Koekkoek the Younger and Jan Van Couver) was a Dutch artist, one of four sons of painter Hermanus Koekkoek the Elder. He followed in his father and grandfather's footsteps as an artist and painting mostly marines. Hermanus seemed to have a preference for coastal scenes with ships battling against strong winds and challenging seas. In his thirties he left Amsterdam for London where he became a successful art dealer.
