A forlorn looking Graeco-Roman woman plays the harp (lyre) on a marble terrace overlooking the sea. Although he saw himself primarily as a portrait/miniatures artist Percy painted a small number of similar paintings - beautiful people in classical settings - possibly catering to market demand. The note on the back dates the painting to 1909 and that Percy was a pupil of Alma Tadema. But we think it dates from earlier, the 1890's, and while Percy may well have been influenced by Tadema we aren't certain he was a pupil. Signed, lower right.
