This was one of Perlee Parker's favourite subjects of life on the North East coast which he painted a number of times. Marshall Hall, author of several books on artists of the North East of England, has kindly pointed out that this painting is a smaller version of the painting by Perlee Parker "Astonishing a native", illustrated in his first book 'The Artist's of Northumbria'.
