A large, and fine, example of Parker's work in excellent condition. On the banks of the Thames between Great Marlow and Henley labourers toil with the harvest, scything the wheat and stacking the sheaves into stooks. Lovely, tranquil, rustic landscape, the slow moving Thames glassy and full of reflections. Just five stooks and a hint of pink in the clouds suggests harvesting, and the day, just beginning. Accompanied with a newspaper clipping (Financial Times, undated but pre-1976) recording it sold at Christies for 750 gns. Signed, and dated 1895, lower right.
