Henry Garland (Fl. 1854-1890)
The Highland Drover
Medium: Oil on canvas
Size without frame: 14.0" x 21.0"
SOLD
This typical example of his work has been painted under one of several pseudonyms he used, this example being signed J. McGeorge, and depicting cattle coming along the drovers' route. Some other of the many pseudonyms are believed to be T. Valentine, William Garland and H. McCullum. It is certain, and not an uncommon practice, that he took different names for different outlets. Perhaps also to use names which would be more readily accepted in both the English and Scottish markets!
The painting is a good size and housed in a modern but very acceptable frame.
