Harry Sutton Palmer was superb in his treatment of trees and this is a prime example. Housed in its lovely original frame the backing which bears the provenance of Frost and Reed. The partner to this painting, a view of Symonds Yat, yielded further provenance on dismantling to clean and re-mount, namely a label of The fine Art Society. It is probable they were bought from exhibition there and were reproduced in print form, a common practice with the company which thus made fine works available more cheaply and, of course, added to their coffers!
