Harold Swanwick (1866-1929)

(Joseph) Harold Swanwick was a British draughtsman and painter in watercolours and oils notably of landscapes, farm workers and horses. Born in Middlewich, Cheshire, son of a doctor, he studied in Liverpool, at the Slade, London, and at the Academie Julian, Paris. Swanwick exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1889, was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1898 and to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1909; His work is held in several public collections including: Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Reading Museums, the York Art Gallery, and the British Museum.
