Lost in thought, this Greek student seems saddened by whatever it is she has just read. Or perhaps she has just realised she's ten more scrolls to wade through... At least she looks in comfortable surroundings: seated on a leopard skin-covered chair, a polished marble floor, and behind her the most delicately painted patterned drapes. Signed lower left and, by the note on the back, given by the artist (Mrs Gertrude McMurdie) to a friend.
