George Henry Boughton RA (1834-1905)
George Henry Boughton was a respected English artist who spent his early years in the USA until eventually deciding in the late 1850s to spend several years studying in Paris. From 1861 he lived in London, settup up a studio. Considered to be a landscape painter he also painted portraits, historical scenes and certainly was a gifted figure painter. Member of Royal Institute of painters in Watercolours and Royal Academician from 1896. Among collections his works can be seen at are those of the Tate, the National Gallery, Museums Sheffield, the V&A, and Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.
