Initially we thought this lovely portrait painting might be of a debutante. However, the plain bodice and absence of jewellery suggests she is more likely to be a young ballerina, dressed in a (romantic-style?) tutu. There are several Wolseley works featuring ballerinas and it is quite possible this is a commissioned work to commemorate this young ballerina's first major performance. This painting was recently acquired in untouched condition and required a light clean and frame repair, which has now been done. Signed lower right.
