An 18th century gouache landscape painting of, we assume, the outskirts of Clermont Ferrand, France. Shepherds tend cattle and sheep grazing in the foreground and beyond the bridge over the river leads to a castle, partially obscured behind the trees. Two indistinct inscriptions on the backing read 'Guache de Romanelly de ??orence' and 'late the property of the Mayor of Claremont Feraud (sic)'. Attributed to Gaetano Romanelli who was known to have painted in France. Housed in a beautiful carved wood 18th century frame with, we believe, original glass.
