Taking a break from heavy labour two draught horses, still equipped in hames, sate their thirst at the pond as the elderly farmer watches over them. Signed, Fred J. Knowles, lower left. In the original gold-leaf frame which must have been dusted over many years to get down to the ground near the title - definitely part of the patina now.!
