This very painting by Appleby passed through our hands in 2002 and it is a pleasure to have the chance to own it again. His narrative pictures always have a story and this one has a gentle and restful feel to it. 'Quiet Thoughts' was Appleby's first painting to be accepted by the Royal Academy in 1886 and between then and 1904 he exhibited another 14 works. The original and very appropriate frame with just a little bit of repair is still in place.
