Ernest Filliard was born in 1868 in Chambery and was trained from his youth with the painter Chamberly Benoit. Filliard is recognised for his very fine still life pictures of flowers which won a number of prizes. Often his paintings were quite small and framed in similar ornate frames of the early part of the 20th Century. At 12 x 18 inches, this is the most imposing example that we have seen and with a fine period frame to match.
